Reimagining a Main Line Stone Colonial

Not long ago, we had the opportunity to work with Compass Realty to redesign a stone colonial home in Wynnewood, PA. A quintessential example of Main Line architecture, the home was built circa 1900 and needed to be brought up-to-date in its design, without losing its historical details and charm.

Often, when a home needs a cosmetic facelift or renovation, clients get our design team involved in process early on, so we can make sure a full plan is in place before construction begins. From space planning to wall and flooring treatments, even lighting and decor, we consider every element of a room.

For this project, our design team started with home's main living areas: the foyer, as well as the dining, living and family rooms. See the full before and after results below, and shop the look for each room!

Before, painted red walls and heavy furniture dominated the dining room. We refreshed the space with a Gracie Studio wallpaper and custom-built molding. In keeping with the casually elegant style of today's dining rooms, we furnished the room with light wood tones and the natural beauty of our cane backed dining chairs. Gold accents, mirrors and lighting added touches of elegance.

We refreshed the formal living room by removing the dated wallpaper and painting the walls Benjamin Moore's White Dove. We also brought the furniture in, away from the walls, and created a more intimate seating arrangement with the fireplace as the focal point.

Before, the den was dark and minimally furnished. We lightened up the space with the same Benjamin Moore White Dove paint as the living room for continuity. And, we remodeled the wall overlooking the backyard pool to add windows and a sliding door. With the lighter walls color and increased natural light, this room became an ideal spot for family to gather and hang-out. We furnished the space with a comfortable bumper chaise sectional - in a performance fabric! - and bold green accents.

Removing the dated wallpaper was the first step in transforming the center hall foyer. We replaced the center chandelier with a more modern, yet elegant piece, and maximized the layout with a round center table and area rug. A bench by the front door adds a pop of color and an ideal space to take shoes on and off.
